The actual definition

What automation really means.

Not robots, and not a subscription to something with “AI” on the box. Automation is taking a sequence a person repeats — copying rows between systems, re-typing an order into a second tool, assembling the same report, chasing the same missing information — and building it once so it simply runs.

The test is repetition, not scale. A process one person repeats constantly is often a better candidate than a grand transformation project, because the payoff is immediate and the thing can be finished.

Product definition

What the system has to do, who touches it, what happens when someone does the wrong thing, and what success looks like in a sentence you would actually say out loud. Narrow scope before code — that is the whole trick.

Prototype, then build

Where the shape is uncertain, a prototype settles the argument cheaply. Then the real thing: front end and back end, built by the same small team, with the data model taken seriously from the start.

A real launch

Deployed on hosting you own, with error handling, backups and a way to tell whether it is working. Documented well enough that the next person can pick it up cold. Not a concept handoff.

Monitoring and iteration

An automation nobody watches fails quietly, and you hear about it from a customer. Monitoring, updates and ongoing changes are available afterward, run by the people who built it.

What counts as business automation?

Automation turns a repeated manual business process into a reliable system. If someone on your team does the same sequence of steps over and over — copying rows between systems, re-typing an order into a second tool, assembling the same report, chasing the same missing information — that sequence can usually be built once and then just run. The test is repetition, not size.

What kinds of applications do you build?

Focused tools rather than sprawling platforms: internal tools, customer portals, calculators, quoting and intake systems, dashboards, APIs other systems can call, and data pipelines that move and clean information on a schedule. If it has one clear job and a real user, it is the right shape for this studio.

Do you use AI in these builds?

Where it earns its place, and not as a headline. AI is genuinely good at some things — classifying messy text, extracting structure from documents, drafting a first pass a human then edits — and genuinely bad at being the load-bearing wall of a process that has to be right every time. We will tell you plainly which of those your problem is.

Can you work with the systems we already use?

That is most of the work. Automation almost never starts from a blank page — it starts from the accounting system, the booking tool, the spreadsheet everyone secretly relies on, and whichever of those exposes an API. We map what exists, connect what can be connected, and are honest about the pieces that will need a human in the loop.

What does an automation project cost?

It is quoted flat and in writing before work begins, scoped around the actual problem rather than a package tier. Websites start from $1,500 CAD; application and automation work is priced against what the system has to do. No hourly billing, and no change-order surcharges on a quote we already gave you.

What happens after the system is live?

It gets monitored, maintained and improved. An automation nobody watches is a liability — it fails quietly and you find out from a customer. We run six live products of our own on the same footing, so launch is the start of operations here, not the finish line.
